When you need to connect with your inner barbarian, it’s good to have a companion.
Day 5 of Fantasy Week and while wandering through Fantasy Faire 2019 I am drawn to the dark mystic beauty of Twilight Spring, one of the 16 fantasy worlds that comprise the Faire. Descending into a deep ravine, the dim lighting, accented with rich purples and gleaming crystals, draws one even deeper.
“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
“You are a mirror reflecting a noble face.
The universe is not outside of you.
Look inside yourself;
Everything you want,
You already are.”
“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”
Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on top of the disheveled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame!
–W.B. Yeats, “The Land of Heart’s Desire” 1894
As one who identifies with dragons — hence my name — I am partial to the Draco skins by Alia Baroque of Fallen Gods. I have several colors in this skin, and loved the new Opal color released in January, an ethereal mix with highlights of cyan and lilac. I have been eager to photograph it.
However when I wore the accessories that were included with the skin, I struggled with some confusion. Lacy wings, delicate flower petals, graceful butterflies… and… dragon scales?!? It seems incongruous; “delicate” is not a word often used in connection with dragons.
In the story of the little silver dragon, whence my name is drawn, a boy is rescued and raised by a dragon. When he is grown, he honors that gift by using his knowledge and power to protect and guide, spreading the blessing of dragons in the world of men.
One of the great things about Second Life is how easily your imagination can take flight. And more than just dreaming, you can bring those fantasies to virtual life. If you can imagine it… you can become it.
